Sweetie, no! Sweetheart Tables a Thing of the Past

May 21 / The IWED Blog

While smaller, private ceremonies are in, the exclusivity and closeness of the sweetheart table has fallen out of style.

Now, that’s not to say you can’t do it anyway or should never do it again… the most important piece of the puzzle, after all, is the couple in question. Just as if it’s your wedding and you can cry if you want to… if it’s your wedding, you can sit wherever and with whomever you want (hopefully… you do want to sit next to your new bride or groom, otherwise this wedding is going to have much BIGGER challenges!).

WHEN SWEETHEART TABLES ARE STILL THE BEST OPTION

The trend of exclusive sweetheart tables is lessening, but not yet obsolete. At a small wedding for instance, it might look odd to put the wedding party all together if they make up a third of everyone in attendance. As always, you will hear the trends and recommendations and then must make the decisions and do with this information what you will.

HOW THE PANDEMIC IMPACTED WEDDING STYLES & DESIGN TRENDS

One thing is for sure, after the pandemic, families and friends have had a yearning to be together and enjoy each other’s company like never before. This renewed sense of community is not lost in the layout of modern wedding ceremonies and receptions.

After too much time apart and no gatherings to be had, people seem more gung-ho than ever to get "buddy-buddy" and cozy. Even family-style meals and communal dining experiences have become much more popular at all types of events in recent years, particularly for ethnic communities, where sharing meals and dishes passed around “family-style,” has always been the norm.
